This was Phill’s 14th eclipse and Steve’s 11th. It was total in Greenland, Iceland and Northern Spain. It was the 48th eclipse of Saros 126.

We went to Marseille. La Plage des Catalans is west facing and got a 96.39% eclipse at its maximum. It has a Jettée which made for an ideal viewing platform. The location was 43.2904767°N 5.3542715°E.

  • The partial eclipse started at 19h31 CEST.

  • the maximum eclipse was at 20h25 CEST.

  • Sunset was 20h46 CEST 291°WNW.

The eclipse occurred during sunset. This caused the light levels to drop during the eclipse. The correction in the animation caused some interesting colour effects.

After maximum eclipse I took the filter off the lens. Some of the images were over-exposed as a result. The interaction of the eclipsed sun, low cloud and the landscape were interesting.

No two eclipses are the same!!!
